Super sweet! that you got your coachella ticket, and uber great thta massive attack was added to the line up. who's going along with you? Nyk and Cavlin? Jess too? man your going to have an amazing time. i
i've got all my classes in order, in addition to a painting and a drawing course, i also have an exclusive etching and woodcut class. well i guess it's not exclusive since there is one other student, an itailian girl who class me her "english teacher boy". Excitied about the prospect of learning how to etch and getting into the swing of things-damn it took long enough. As for this week i'm on holiday, however the school is open. I went today and found an empty class room and preped some canvas. i'm taking full advantage of the facilities and tomorrow will begin working on 5 different canvas. again i've been getting into the habit of drawing everyday, of course not as much as i want to, but hey it's a step towards disciplining myself. Also playing around with alot of diffrent drawing approaches, scribles, countour line, tight, loose, etc.. you know the drills.
On thursday and friday, i'll be heading to amsterdam to check out some fine art, coffeeshops and redlights. i was reading about amsterdamn and this article compared the city to dantes 9 rings of hell. the city winds it's way to the center and smack in the center is redlight district, apparently you can't escape it. Sex show drawing seems like it's in order. haha. speaking of traveling i stumbled across a link on the net about a graphic novel art exhibit in brussles. Barron, Kent Williams, Dave Mack! and a couple more. AND barron will be there playing music. i will most surely be attending it's only a train ride away!!! check out the link

Being away from the bay area has given me a fresh perspective. It's one of those chance opportunities of stepping outside of yourself. The open studio environment is quite like real life. For a moment the other day i had a crisis and was doubting my ability to be an illustrator, to be an artist. then i realized how serious of a commitment i have to make, i have to be in the studio painting everyday, i have to draw everyday. I have to stop saying that i'm an artist and actually start being an artist. At home it's differnt because school is there to give me assignments and consume my time, so i can't help but feel productive. but schools not going to be there in a year. We've had discussions about along these lines and i'm sure you too have realized these issues. Another thing that has become even more obvious than at home is the necesity to forge strong relationships with other artists. Once school is over we won't have to opportunity of being in an envorinment populated by some many artists. aghh i don't want to sound preachy, these are just some issues that i've been thinking about as of late.
In addition to working i've also been taking to opportunity to socialize. I've never been as drunk in my life as i was on saturday. It was a nice calm day of drawing, i even went to the symphony. But the night took a turn towards debauchery. I arrived home and a drinking game was taking place and i was coerced into playing, before having eaten any dinner, So i had nothing in my stomach. The game was called kings cup. SO with nothing in my stomach i proceeded to play, and was quickly anebriated. haha the evening is a slight haze after that, i do remember stumbling to my room. Upon arriving in my room i examined the three blank canvases on the floor was struck by and idea, and then involuntarily proceeded to vomit on the canvases which i had finished gessoing that day. i cleaned myslef up and fell asleep, only to wake up in the morning and discover the asthetically pleasing patterns of my projectile vomit adorning the no longer white canvas. With that said i will wrap this up. How are classes? Are the illustrations of our peers Improving? Have the thesis students began to produce work?
