Tricked Out Ponies!!!
Lately I've been kind of looking backwards into my catalogue, actually...haha, I think I realized that I have so much music I've never really listened to that I decided to let it all sink in. I haven't listened to the new flaming lips but i really really want to buy it. just need time and money. wolf mother is hell of savage. tool is going to be hell of way savage. MASTODON is coming out with an album called BLOOD MOUNTAIN upon which Cedric from the good ol' Volta of Mars sings (thank you nyk for that juicy morsel). (speaking of mastodon, i love them SO SO SO MUCH now. i think mainly just because I can use my hair to full effect when I listen to them. me and nyk are becoming metal fiends.) Hahaha we're actually going to a concert at the HP pavilion called "The Unholy Alliance": the lineup is Slayer, Mastodon, Children of Bodom, Thine Eyes Bleed, etc...its going to be the most hardcore thing I've ever gone to. I hope I survive.
Dan, yes i've heard the new yeah yeah yeah's. i haven't listened to it over enough times to form a solid opinion. it's different. not so raw nor as multifacited as fever to tell. take maps and turn it into a albums worth of similar sounding songs and thats what you get. Ummm... or maybe not. who knows. The new flaming lips is quite good, have you given that a whirl? If not,do so it's full of lovely psychedelic crunchy guitars. MMM. Wolf mother is savage, thanks for nyk to turning me on to them. My most coveted music possesion of the moment is however THE TRIALS OF VAN OCCUPANTHER. also known as the new midlake to be released in june. Nothing less than divine, everything one could want from a second release (or third). I'm eagerly awaiting the new tool, the single should wet may appetite, april 17th. Hmm also downloaded the new velvet teen single Gyzm kid. They've gone completley different direction, should be interesting to see. Where as elysium was beautiful, the new recording is Glitchy and Abrassive and the drumming is intense. Hmm anything new on your end music wise that i should look into?

I am posting from school...
...as I wait for Owen's class to meet in thiry-four minutes. We're supposed to have a crit today, but the past four or so classes have ALL supposed to have been crits. We were supposed to have our last project due the Monday after spring break - then it got pushed back to wednesday. But Owen hired a model to pose for us for that class and last monday, and so the crit got pushed back to today. But now we're supposed to take a field trip into SF, and Owen still wants to try to squeeze the crit in - to make a long story somewhat shorter, the guy needs to learn how to plan better. The most wonderful thing is that even after pushing the deadline back a week and a half, I'm still only maybe like 60% done with the piece. Basically, I am insanely sick of this semester and I want summer to begin because I have many things that I want to start working on.
So Alexis told me you're taking color with Mendenhall next semester, Nikko...looks like we'll be in the same class. What else are you taking? I'm going to have an insane semester. I don't know how much of this I've expressed to you, but I've been freaking out pretty bad about illustration and art-making in general, and I had a long talk with both Alexis and a personal counselor about it. After discussing it with Alexis, I decided that I'm not taking illustration 5 next semester, I'm holding off on it until spring...since I'll get all the rest of my requirements out of the way, I'm going to only have thesis to take in fall 2007. But in the mean time, I'm taking 4 studio classes next semester: 2 printmaking, Litho 1 and Etching 1, a new class with Randy which is mainly painting from the costumed model (I don't know how much you've heard about that), and color workshop. Then I'm taking 2 academic classes to round it all out. Maybe I have a death wish, or maybe it'll be the most amazing semester ever. We'll see. Anyway, it sucks that we won't be in 5 and 6 together. I was all pumped about that. But I feel like I really need the time off from the program to just solidify myself.
so Tool is playing at the Paramount Theater! That's SO FREAKING COOL! I think it might be during finals week, though...either that, or right when summer starts. Hopefully the latter. I really want to go, because it would be nice to see them play in something smaller than an arena. And Beck's playing again, but tickets go on sale this sunday and are more than likely going to sell out in 3 seconds. I have no hope for that. Have you listened to the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album? Because I haven't.
Coachella seems further and further away the closer it gets. Time is going so slow right now. Me and Nyk are burning a ton of cds to listen to on the way down...mostly rock out music so we can take full advantage of our long hair. We are also borrowing a car-fridge from his parents in order to put the salami log, baguette and cheese brick that will feed us round trip.
Mkay. Time to go to Owen's class, and get a sort-of critique on a sort-of piece. I'd like to see some more work if you've got some, even if I haven't shown any of my shit...it's coming, I just need to FINISH something.
Roger that. Ten Four.

junior review!
went well, here is a photo.
the latest on becca:
1. she had typohiod fever and is now being treated.
2. she is happy and has found the trip very fullfilling.
3. she is taking finals now before everyone in the program splits up to do independent 3-week travel, conducting research projects. then her parents come for a week or so.
